Let’s start with Friday. At Jet7.5 Food & Drinks, in Praça do Forte, the evening is expected to be full: Vando Barros, Cristiana Costa and Rodrigo Senna will take over the stage, in a space that offers live music every Friday and Saturday, as well as open-mic nights on Thursday.
The next day, the honor falls to veteran rock cover band The Peorth.
Saturday, May 20, starts early, with the XVI TT Ride Rota das Espigas, in Marinha das Ondas, organized by the Cultural Recreational and Sports Association of Matos, inserted in the Ascension Festivities 2023, which for four days take place in this village.
May is Museum Month, and the“May is Museum” program in Figueira da Foz is varied and abundant. Otherwise, let’s see:
On Saturday morning there is Yoga on the Beach, for children aged 5 to 12…
… At 6 pm, the Santos Rocha Municipal Museum receives Lourenço Ataíde, a young musician from Figueirense who stood out in 2022 in the program “The Voice Portugal”….
… and still integrated in the program of the 11th edition of “May is Museum!”, On Sunday there will be a Green Salt Trail in Family.
The excellent Núcleo Museológico do Sal organizes this initiative. Participation is free but subject to registration and activities always start at 3pm, including: Green Sensory Experiences, Green Walk, Green Collections and Green Recipes.
Back on Saturday, Tao Center for Yoga and Wellness hosts another relaxing concert of Gogos and Tibetan Bowls, with Alexandre Dias, starting at 6 pm.
On the same day, the Municipal Public Library Pedro Fernandes Tomás receives Albertina Seco, for a presentation session of her debut work “Os Olhos Azuis de M.H“, a youth novel that addresses very current issues, with illustrations by Soraia Ramalho.
The highlight of Saturday is the performance of Dino Santiago at Casino Figueira. Born in Quarteira, he is now a central figure in Portuguese music. In musical terms, he works the Cape Verdean tradition with the contemporary weight of global electronics.
With an absolutely overwhelming year of 2022, starting with the sold-out crowd at Coliseu dos Recreios (Lisbon), passing through unavoidable moments such as NOS Alive, MEO Marés Vivas, among others, the Portuguese musician is increasingly asserting himself as one of the main protagonists of contemporary music made in Portuguese.
Sunday is enduro day! Figueira da Foz hosts a national stage of the Trofeu Enduro GasGas Portugal 2023, a mono-brand competition, with several races throughout the municipality, which is organized locally by the Moto Clube da Figueira da Foz.
The riders will find a course of about 50 km and three specials to be completed twice. The Enduro-Test (7.4 km) is located next to the Carritos – Fontela road, the Cross-Test on the sandy beach of Figueira da Foz (4 km) and the Extreme-Test (1 km) next to ET. The pilots depart from 9:00 am from the Fort of St. Catherine.
Also on Sunday, at 4 p.m., the David de Sousa Choir will host the Texas A&M University Choir in a free concert to be held at the Igreja Matriz de São Julião.
The festivities in Honor of Our Lady of Gracereturn, as has been tradition for decades, to the streets of Vila Verde. From May 18 to 21, the seat of this riverside parish will be animated with a program of religious and recreational events, including dance nights, gaiteiros and concerts, without missing a pyrotechnic show on the night of the first day of celebrations.
