The weekend is approaching and Figueira da Fozis preparing to offer another list of suggestions. Let’s have endless music!

The Figueirense weekend begins with fado and traditional music: as part of the Cultural Route through the Parishes project, the Acordes da Foz Group, a cavaquinho cultivator, and the Coimbra Fado Group Saudade Coimbrã return to the stage of the Bandstand of the Municipal Garden of Figueira da Foz. From 21:30.

On Saturday, the Community Volunteer Group of Figueira da Foz of the Portuguese League Against Cancer will hold a Solidarity Walk, as part of the Todos por Todos program that takes place in the Central region.
The gathering will take place at Praça da Europa, in front of the Town Hall, at 9:30 am and everyone is invited. Registration costs 5 euros and, in addition to supporting the invaluable work of the Group in the municipality, entitles you to a t-shirt alluding to the event.

Also on Saturday morning, the children are entitled to an extension in the Municipal Garden, with an extension in the afternoon and a repeat on Sunday. There will be “giant soap balls”, popcorn machine, face painting and balloon modeling, animation on stilts, archery, animation – Alice in Wonderland.

Saturday and Sunday, Marinha das Ondas will once again host, 18 years after the last edition, the ExpoOndas event, a festival that promises music, entertainment, good food and exhibitors with local products and companies: “the ideal combination for a very well spent weekend“.

At night, the highlight goes to the performance of Bárbara Tinoco. Accompanied by her band, she performs at the Grand Auditorium of the Center for Arts and Entertainment for a very special concert as part of CAE’s 21st Anniversary.

At 11 pm, Brazilian singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Mariane Guerra performs at the Caffé Hall of the Figueira da Foz Casino. Admission is free.

Still on the musical front, from 10pm, DRAC presents another showcase of modern music, with a double performance by Portuguese indie rockers Blu Flamingo and Australian garage punk outfit Blowers.

For its part, the Tua Cara association energizes the weekend in Caras Direitas with a Birthday Party with DJ Ruben on Saturday night, promising a more zen Sunday between 3 and 6 pm.

Sunday morning brings a Poetry show aimed at children, with Marina Ferraz, author, lyricist and performer. She writes weekly on the blog “Segredos de um Monstro” and is the author of the poetry book “Fragmentos de Mim” (2008) and the book of short stories “[A(MOR]TE)” (2022).

In the afternoon, the stage of the great auditorium of the Center for Arts and Shows receives the kids version of Commedia a la Carte, in an improvisational comedy session that is fun for the whole family.

During the afternoon, there is a suggestion of a theatrical matinee: the satire “O Morto Manhoso“, the last production of the Sociedade Boa União Alhadense with staging by Marques Cabete, will be on stage in the institution’s room, with the proceeds going to Gadaff.

During this weekend, Figueira da Foz offers a variety of entertainment options to make the most of. Invite your family or friends and enjoy everything this county has to offer.

Fort of Santa Catarina

The Fort of Santa Catarina was built on the foundations of a fortification existing since the reign of D. João I (1385-1433). In October 1585 some good men from the Coimbra City Council petitioned Philip I of Portugal (1580-1598) for the construction of the Fort, with a view to defending Figueira da Foz from enemy entry through the mouth of the River Mondego.
