The month of August has arrived and with it the festivals, pilgrimages and celebrations throughout the county return in force. The communities unite in their traditions, celebrating their saints and their milestones, almost always festivities of a religious nature but with plenty of recreational and, of course, gastronomic programs.
Whether you’re a visitor or a resident, join in the dance, attend the pilgrimages, get to know the local cults, enjoy the delicacies of the region and get to know Figueira da Foz beyond the bathing postcard.
Here are four proposals for this weekend:
The weekend starts on Friday and tonight there is another movie night at the Centro de Artes e Espectáculos, this time with one of the most acclaimed works of Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky: Nostalgia, awarded at Cannes in 1983.
We call again on this space for the exhibition “The Sea is our Land“, on display at the Meeting Point until May next year.
This Saturday, at 6 pm, there will be a guided tour by André Tavares, one of the curators of the exhibition, being an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of the environmental and human impact of the interaction between the ocean and the coastline.
The Book Fair “Férias com Livros” receives on Saturday Filipa Martins, who will talk about the extraordinary life and work of Natália Correia, through her work “O Dever de Deslumbrar“.
The next day, it’s the turn of our fellow countryman Nuno Camarneiro, an award-winning author who comes mainly to talk about his latest work, A Casa das Perguntas, another foray into children’s literature, in partnership with the illustrator Hélder Teixeira Peleja.
Also on Saturday, the Coliseu Figueirense (Bullring) will be the stage for the The Peakles who bring to Figueira da Foz a special show celebrating the career of The Beatles, the Liverpool band that revolutionized popular music. It promises “an unmissable journey through some of the top hits” of the Fab Four‘s career.
The A Tua Cara Association, at the Caras Direitas Theater, offers another weekend of intense musical activity. The poster tells the whole program. Take the opportunity to visit the photography exhibition by Luis Carlos on the 1st floor of the building.
It’s not on the agenda this week, but it will be next week. Prior registration is required:
