1, 2, 3….we’re in September!

September is a month that brings a unique sense of new beginnings. As summer draws to a close, September invites us to start new journeys and get back into our routines.

Nature is slowly beginning to change its colors in preparation for the arrival of autumn. It’s a month of new opportunities, of setting goals and challenges for the coming months/year.

So get ready for a great September weekend in Figueira da Foz!

From September 1st to 3rd Tavarede celebrates the LIMONETE FESTIVAL with lots of good snacks, music and entertainment! The meeting point is Quinta da Borleteira!

Until Sunday, Buarcos is invaded by the best Pirates ever! The 11th edition of the PIRATA FESTIVAL will feature various and varied performances, gastronomy, music and lots of fun-filled experiences!!!

On Sunday the 3rd, we’re going to the beach… Praia do Cabedelo is hosting the final surfing stage of the TAÇA DOS PORTOS, an event organized by the Figueira da Foz Surfing Association and the Aveiro Surfing Association.

On the subject of books, at FÉRIAS COM LIVROS – Praça Dr. Fernando Traqueia, Buarcos – the “Mystery in Serra da Estrela. The Secret of the Woman’s Covão“, by Teresa Duarte Reis, author of children’s books.

The Holidays with Books will end very well with two Figueirans: “Aprender a Usar a Baioneta em Tempo de Guerra” (Learning to Use a Bayonet in Wartime), novelist António Tavares ‘ first foray into poetry, will be the central theme of this meeting, which takes place on Saturday, the 2nd, at 21:30.

On Sunday the 3rd, Férias Com Livros ends with a performance by actor and theater teacher Guilherme de Bastos Lima accompanied on the piano by Alexandra Curado: “EN’CANTAR POETAS“, at 9:30 p.m., in Buarcos.

Still on the subject of books, the group of Friends of the Idalécio Cação Library (BIC) is promoting a presentation session of Lurdes Breda’s new book, “Bambaré, letras para ficar d’ouvidos em pé” (Bambaré, letters to keep your earsto the ground), on Sunday, the 3rd, at 3.30pm, at the Moinhos da Gândara Municipal Swimming Pool. A presentation as part of the Library’s 6th anniversary celebrations.

Today and tomorrow, Quiaios is celebrating one of the oldest and most important religious festivals: FESTAS DO SENHOR.

Buarcos is hosting the FESTAS DA SENHORA DA ENCARNAÇÃO until September 10. The beautiful Chapel Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, at the top of Buarcos, is once again coming to life and becoming the center of the great annual festivities in honor of its patron saint.

The FEIRA DOS 3, in Ferreira-a-Nova, takes place on Saturday, the 2nd, with musical entertainment and taverns, in an event where barbecue chicken and other local delicacies reign supreme.

If you haven’t yet been to CASINO FIGUEIRA for a nice Francesinha and to see Vynil, you must make the most of it today and tomorrow! These two events end on Saturday the 2nd, marking the end of Casino Figueira’s summer season!

Throughout this weekend, Figueira da Foz has a variety of entertainment opportunities to enjoy to the full. Invite your loved ones or friends and explore all the options available in this town.

It’s not official and it’s not on the roadmap, but I’ve been looking there for at least fifty years. Not exactly in the same place, because my viewpoint has grown and is now further away – which only makes it more beautiful.

Fort of Santa Catarina

The Fort of Santa Catarina was built on the foundations of a fortification existing since the reign of D. João I (1385-1433). In October 1585 some good men from the Coimbra City Council petitioned Philip I of Portugal (1580-1598) for the construction of the Fort, with a view to defending Figueira da Foz from enemy entry through the mouth of the River Mondego.
