And so it was the biggest Figueira Beach Rugby International ever, with a top athletic and fair-play level and an even more “top” social and party atmosphere. Congratulations are due to the Doctor Sport team that organized the event and the tireless staff, Buarcos and the city that so well received this crowd of “rugbistas”, but also the main sponsor Foz Plaza and the Municipality of Figueira da Foz, entities that once again bet heavily on this day of sport and fraternization, which offers a magnificent external projection of the city. Figueira da Foz.
Word of mouth is still the best marketing and these positive experiences will certainly mark the many athletes and companions who have passed through here.
A total of 56 teams, 10 countries and around 900 athletes did indeed pass through the four fields of this great beach rugby festival, but above all through the recreational spaces reserved for partying and music, including the Caras Direitas Theater and the Tua Cara Association, which kept the nights going. A success of solidarity was also the initiative “Every essay counts”, half a cent for each essay scored in the tournament, whose revenues reverted this year in favor of the Maritime Scouts of Figueira da Foz, who also supported the event.
MeetFigueira was a partner of the event and also made extensive photo coverage, of which here is a selection (our Facebook album has many more photos, if you want to see better how it was). We also explained the differences between beach rugby and classic rugby(here) and revealed some curious facts about the sport(here).
And there’s more next year. In the Figueira Beach Games calendar, the “Madjer Beach Soccer Cup“ now followsThe first youth beach soccer tournament recognized by Beach Soccer Worldwide, which will bring to the Buarcos beach 22 teams from 5 countries (Portugal, Spain, El Salvador, England and Germany) and about 300 athletes: 8 under-16 teams, 10 under-18 teams and 4 female teams, will take place from 14 to 16 of this month.
