“(A) taste with a flavor of salt” in the 16 years of the Salt Ecomuseum

Shortly after the salt tradition in the Mondego estuary was classified as national intangible heritage, the Salt Ecomuseum of Figueira da Foz celebrates its 16th anniversary with a very special edition of “(A) gosto com Sabor a Sal” and “a diversified program of activities, which allows visitors to experience various sensations, emotions and experiences”, according to a note from the Municipality.

The celebrations, which take place under the umbrella of the project “Living Science Salt Farm”, include the photographic exhibition “O Sal no Olhar”, open until August 31, which brings together nine photographs by four authors: António Cravo, Paulo Delgado, Paulo Colaço and Gilda Saraiva and which aims to “deconstruct the way we look at salt, showing that it is synonymous with: traditions, territory, community, biodiversity and transmission of knowledge and flavors”.

On the 10th and 31st (Thursdays) the event “Pé no Sal” (foot on salt) will take place, consisting of an interpretive walk to the Salt Pans Route (9:30 am), a cold tea served at the Pedarium (11:00 am) and a guided tour of the Museum Center (11:30 am), with registration to the email: nucleo.sal@cm-figfoz.pt

On August 12 and 13 (Saturday and Sunday), cinema will come into play and the Núcleo Museológico do Sal will be an extension of the Marmostra short film festival, which the Associação da Praia da Tocha organized in July. The sessions will take place in the salt warehouse of the Salt Ecomuseum, at 11:00 and 15:00 on both days.

On the evening of August 14 (Monday), a stargazing session, “Centro de Ciência Viva vai iluminar o Sal” (Living Science Center will illuminate Salt), will take place at 9 pm, guided by members of the Planetarium of Porto. Here too, prior registration is required: nucleo.sal@cm-figfoz.pt

This true living museum blows out its candles, however, on August 17, concentrating several activities. From 2:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. (every half hour), the short film by Luís Albuquerque “A Dança dos Flamingos” (The Flamingo Dance) will be shown. At 16h00 will be inaugurated the exhibition of Photography and Poetry “White Gold” in LEM – Lavos Multicultural Space, closing the day in celebration, by 17h30, with a “Sunset in Salt”, in the Salt Ecomuseum, “where music and poetry already have confirmed presence”.

The following day, August 18, the Municipality invites families, between 10:30 am and 4:30 pm, to participate in the activity, “Marnoto for a day”, learning with the marnotos (traditional salt producers) of the Salina do Corredor da Cobra. Registration: nucleo.sal@cm-figfoz.pt

The Municipal Photographic Archive (AFM) joins the anniversary on the 19th, International Photography Day, promoting, at the Image Barracks, between 10:00 and 18:00, the “Salted Paper Workshop”, with a maximum limit of 6 registrations (M18). Applications should be sent by August 14 to: arqfoto@cm-figfoz.pt. On the same day, an oyster tasting, “Oysters and Sounds onSalt”, will be held at 5:30 pm at the Núcleo Museológico do Sal, accompanied by a musical moment. The activity is free but subject to registration: nucleo.sal@cm-figfoz.pt

On August 20, in honor of the men and women of the salt pans of Figueira da Foz, the recreation takes place. “The old-fashioned harvest” at the Cobra Corridor Municipal Saltworks, “we travel back in time to the era when salt was carried barefoot from the salt pan to the warehouse”.

The MAREFOZ laboratory also participates in the celebrations, being a partner of actions related to science, the environment and the tradition of the salty: Water & Salt (August 23), Salty Fauna (August 24), Salty Flora (August 25) and Tradition & Innovation (August 26).

On August 6, 13 and 27 (always on Sundays) the Center will host Yoga mornings (yoga; yoga for families; yoga nidra and Chi Kung), the only non-free activity in the program, with registration to: saberamarsalgado@gmail.com | 964443961.
