As part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Folkloric Ranch of Mallorca, the conference “Folklore in the present day” will be held on August 13, at 16:00, at the headquarters of the Musical Association União Filarmónica Maiorquense. The initiative will feature five speakers:
Alejandro Reys – Lucero, PhD student in Music Sciences in the field of Historical Musicology at the New University of Lisbon. He is an integrated member of Inet-MD, Instituto de Etnomusicologia – Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança. He participated in the research project “PROFMUS – Being a Musician in Portugal” as a research fellow, dedicating himself to research on the socio-professional reality of musicians in Portugal during the Estado Novo, particularly the case of the Subdelegation of the National Union of Musicians in Figueira da Foz (1947-1974);
Carlos Batista, PhD candidate in History and Philosophy of Science, specialization in Museology at the University of Évora, graduated in Archaeology at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto and researcher in Ecomusic, sustainable practices: a study on post-folklorism in Portugal in the 20th century. XI”. She is a member of the technical team of the Photographic Archive of the Municipality of Figueira da Foz;
Gil Raro, Master in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and mentor of the project “Alfaiate do Povo” that develops his research on civil and/or popular Portuguese clothing;
Ana Borges, choreographer, performer and professor of contemporary dance at the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada and Artistic Director of Corpo de hoje Associação Cultural;
Laurinda Figueiras of the National Directorate of the Confederation of Culture, Recreation and Sport Collectivities.
The conference aims to “promote and convene discussion, ideas, thoughts and reflections around Folklore as a cause, tradition and innovation, proposing to the community a careful and dedicated look at the diversity of cultural expressions that constitute the intangible and material cultural heritage of Portugal that we all wish to safeguard, allowing new generations to find in the present, pride in the past and sow new seeds for the future in the valorization and credibility of Portuguese Folklore”.
