Here is the Figueira da Foz Ladies Open, an ITF World Tennis Tour W100 event that brings to Figueira some of the biggest names on the international women’s tennis circuit. It will be at the tennis complex of Forte de Santa Catarina and Czech tennis player Linda Fruhvirtova is the headliner of this which is “the most important edition ever of the Figueira da Foz Ladies Open”, between July 23 and 30, and which in 2023 was elevated to the ITF category of 100,000 dollars in prize money.
Currently ranked 53rd in the WTA rankings, the 18-year-old Czech leads the list of entrants in what is one of the two most important women’s tournaments taking place in Portugal this season. The top 8 of the entry list is completed by Spain’s Nuria Parrizas-Diaz (105th), Britain’s Jodie Anna Burrage (108th), Italy’s Lucrezia Stefanini (111th), Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer (112th), France’s Oceane Dodin (113th), Czech Tereza Martincova (115th) and Japan’s Nao Hibino (127th).
The event’s high cut-off meant that no Portuguese players gained direct entry into the singles event, but Portuguese participation will be ensured through wild cards. Francisca Jorge is the best Portuguese tennis player today and is ranked 282nd in the WTA, followed by her sister, Matilde Jorge (642nd). In the doubles, the two tennis players from Guimarães are, respectively, ranked 124th and 137th in the world and have just lifted their 12th title side by side in international competitions.
